Entertainment District, Husker Football and Our Response
| August 30, 2013
It is an exciting time for the city of Lincoln. The new additions to the Haymarket area are sure to bring in more people from out of town and provide more opportunities to celebrate Husker athletics. This year, with the fall football season together with the opening of Lincoln’s new entertainment district, Cornhusker Place anticipates a busy fall season.
The staff at Cornhusker Place has been busy preparing. We realize that we play an important role in the safety of our community – especially when alcohol is served at large gatherings of people. For the past several months, Cornhusker Place has been meeting with several community stakeholders in an effort to ensure that we are prepared to continue to provide a safe place for people who have become too intoxicated to no longer be safe in public.
Data has proven over time that on Husker Football home games, admissions to Protective Custody increase dramatically over other Saturdays. The later the kickoff, the greater the increase. But we are not yet sure what effect and to what degree the concerts, open entertainment district and other changes will bring.
We look forward to continuing to respond to the needs of the community and being an active voice in making sure our citizens stay safe as more entertainment options are added to the Lincoln landscape.
