Give To Lincoln Day 2018
| May 1, 2018
Not just a day to raise funds.
To us Give To Lincoln Day has always been special. While we benefit greatly from the funds raised and the additional amount provided by the Lincoln Community Foundation’s $400,000 challenge match fund, there’s something else we look forward to just as much on that day.
Each Give To Lincoln Day we host a car wash and grill out for our supporters. There is nothing quite like the feel of the warm sun beating down, the smell of hotdogs on the grill and the sound of clients washing cars, putting their all into cleaning the vehicles of those who have made their treatment possible.
For us, it’s just as much about giving back and showing gratitude to those who have helped us along the way, as it is showing the community that the individuals in our care have value and can give back.
Truth be told, the stigma that surrounds addiction is staggering.
- 1 in 12 People Need Substance Use Treatment
In 2015, an estimated 21.7 million people aged 12 or older needed treatment for problems related to the use of alcohol or illicit drugs, or about 1 in 12 people.
Yet…
- Less Than 11% of Those Who Need Treatment Received It.
In 2015, 10.8% of people aged 12 or older (2.3 million people) who needed care received treatment at a specialty facility.
It’s easy to pretend people and their issues don’t exist when you don’t see them.
Every interaction a community member has with our clients is an opportunity to reiterate that each human being has value and potential. Showing up, whether that means attending a simple car wash or supporting us with a donation on May 31, brings to light an issue that affects all of Lincoln in one form or another.
We’re hoping you’ll join us this Give To Lincoln Day, May 31st.
